Just got the Waimea tonight. I am very impressed. Blade is centered and sharp. Excellent fit and finish. Good lock up and easy to access the lock bar. I have been debating whether to buy this for a year. I am glad I finally bought it. The lock bar access is an improvement compared to the Buck TNT. I like to collect titanium folders and this one is going to get a lot of pocket time. I like sebenzas, but the sharpness is dissapointing even though I use a sharpmaker with diamond rods. Overall, the Waimea is going to be my favorite small titanium folder.

Congrats and welcome, ph.ht1! Feel free to post any pics if you are so inclined. :)

Hey PH...that Waimea is cool.

I don't get what you mean about the lock bar diff between the TNT and the Waimea? Can you elaborate for me? Comparison pics?

Welcome :)

Regarding the lock bar access, I will try to explain. The side of the scale that does not have the frame lock has a semicircular cut out so when the framelock is to be disengaged, you can insert your thumb into the semicircle to disengage the frame lock. The TNT has a shallow semicircle cut out and this makes disengaging the lock a little more difficult. Sorry I can't post pics. I am clueless about how to do it.

I hope Buck continues to improve on these Mayo designs. Tip up clip would be nice. Wharny blade. Anodized titanium. Low rider clip. BG42. The list goes on and on. I really like small knives and the Waimea is perfect for me. This is my 2nd buck knife and I am really impressed with the workmanship. I own 4 sebenzas and a William Henry and Xm-18, Lochsa, Obenauf, and other customs. Currently the Waimea is my favorite. I like it more than my custom Mayo wharny. My custom Mayo is just too pricey to use as a beater. Thank you Buck for making this great knife.

 I'm not worthy! Nice collection.

Thanks PH...
After I posted my inquiry for clarification, I goofed around with the Miracle Whips of Buck knives...each Mayo Buck that I have is flawless in construction. Never regretted getting one.

Anyway, after goofing with them a bit, I thought I got what you meant. Reading your reply confirms what I suspected through several deployments of the blades...You are correct. I will have to dig out the caliper to check the diff if the thumb notch...but suffice to say, though almost missed by the nude eye, the diff is enough to make a diff.

Buckaholic, thanks for the comparison pic. I think Buck should make the semicircle cut out a little larger for the TNT. I have an Obenauf model 3 that has no cut out for disengaging the lock bar. I had trouble unlocking the frame lock. I got pissed and took the knife apart and used a file to form my own semicircle cut out. I basically ruined a custom knife with my shoddy work, but it unlocks easily now.
As much as I like customs, I also love production knives for their value. The Waimea is well designed, well made in the USA, and contains excellent materials for the blade and handle.
