Buck Metro?

I know a lot of people, Buck people included, look at the Metro a little.... well, strangely. I bought one a while ago and carried it on my keychain, and I have to tell you, it is actually a really handy little guy to have on you. I have put it away in exchange for a few other knives, after listening to people tell me how much better other knives were, but I am going on a cruise next week, and put it back on my keychain for the trip. I figure it is as sheeple friendly, as inconspicuous, and as non-threatening as a knife gets, perhaps even more so then the Vic Classic. I have it razor sharp, and it is actually a very sturdy knife. So, the question.
What does the Buck universe think of this little ugly duckling?

Hmmm.

Okay, I know this is a Buck forum, but metro better than a Vic classic?

I gotta go meditate on this one. I deeply love my little Hartsook, and I carried a 301 stockman from 1967 to the early 1990's, and even then it still got used now and then. I still have my old Buck 102 woodsman I bought in 1969, and it's a great knife for the woods in general. I only say all this to point out I've been a Buck user for 42 years now. But I do love my little classic for keychain duty.

But I will give you this; the metro will open a cold one, and the classic doesn't have a bottle opener.

Gotta contemplate on this one. Let me get back to ya on this.:D

:)I don't think he said "better than", just "even less conspicuous and threatening than".
I don't even like the SAK much (although I'm test driving a Swiss Buck right now), but I for sure wouldn't trade one for the metro .:thumbdn:

Easy, Jackknife. Like Plumberdv said, I just said it was probably even more inconspicuous then the Classic. The Classic gets confiscated at airports, isn't allowed in some night clubs, etc. I never had a problem with the Metro, even getting into government buildings with it on my keychain. However, I have not tried to get on an airplane with it.
LOL.
I knew I was going to get hammered for liking this little guy. Haha. Ok, let the beating begin.

Nobody's hammering you on it. I just said I have to contemplate that.

The metro is a little odd to me, and there's no sissors or little screw driver tip like on the classic.

Better is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm not sure how I behold the metro.

You know, it's funny. This knife is a silly looking thing, and a bit of a joke when it comes to knives, but I did carry it for a number of years, and it certainly came in extremely handy. I used it for all sorts of things and never felt underknifed. I did use the bottle opener a few times, and even got to use the soda can tab opener as well, to get under those really tight and stubborn tabs some soda cans have. The small size of the blade reminds me of a scalpel, and the Buck 420HC steel gets and keeps a super sharp edge. I used it one time as a can opener, and it still had a crazy sharp edge afterwards. I love my Classic, but like I said, I am going on a cruise and am afraid it might get confiscated. Granted, it is only $10, but I just feel the Metro is less likely to get taken.

Don't knock the knives, man!!! There's an old saying. There are no silly knives, just silly knife owners.

Ok, there was never a saying like that and I failed at trying to make it sound old and wise!!! I kind've like that hitchhiker!! Call me weird.

:barf: Had one on my key chain for years. Worthless unless you want to cut a string from time to time! :barf:

my 15 year old granddaughter carries one in her purse, every where she goes, except to school.

A few years ago I found some on sale for a dollar each so I purchased all they had (4) and I have given them as gifts .They are pretty nice really I jusy never carried one because I always have a SAK and a larger folder on me.

Well, I dig it. For everyday chores I might encounter, there's not much I can't do with it. I mean, I am not chopping down trees (which I can still do with this thing by notching the base all the way around and then giving it a tug. Up to a small sapling.) or skinning animals with it (something it will also do for ya). I live in the city. The demands I would need a knife for are opening up envelopes, cutting twine, breaking down boxes, and maybe some other odds and ends. In an emergency, it is more then capable of cutting through a seatbelt, or cutting through an article of clothing. Aw hell, it could also perform minor surgery if need be, since it is about the size of a scalpel (I've read many accounts of accidents or injuries where there was a doctor present, but no scalpel, and someone's pocketknife was used). The bottle opener space could be used for a variety of things, as can the ridged back. It is as good or as useless as one's own ingenuity. It has handled any and all of my everyday chores.

I've decided that I have to get one of the new ones. Both of the others that I have were made in China and the new ones are USA made. I just have to decide which one of these two will look the best on the ring with my Harley keys.

Get the first one. It goes with the bike better.
