below is a photo of several small fixed blades (even though they are not D2FBs)

in the middle are the two blades mentioned in the title; interested in any comments re the buck mini alpha hunter in 154CM (BOS) as a stainless alternative to the esee izula as a general utility knife

the two blades are very close in actual cutting edge length; the buck , intended as a skinner, has a little more belly but still fairly close in blade shape; the buck is hollow grind versus flat for the izula; thickness of blades appears very similar

anyone use the buck as a utility blade?

I am thinking about it. They seem to have better steel, but I would like to change to scales... especially if i had the wooden handel version..

Great idea. I have an mini-alpha just laying around feeling neglected. It even has a smart looking sheath.

Used to own a Mini-Alpha Hunter, but sold it after realizing I hadn't used it once since I purchased it over a year prior.
No fault of the knife itself, it just fell by the wayside before I got a chance to use it.

When comparing it to the likes of the Izula or BK-11,
Pros: felt great in-hand, Paul Bos HT'd 154CM (at least with the camo handle,) and as Mark pointed out, it had a pretty cool little belt sheath.
Cons: it's all belly (a pro for some, perhaps) and very weighty (lending to the in-hand feel, mind you.)

If weight (largely negated by belt carry) or neck carry is at all a concern for you, I would look elsewhere.
If you are looking less for an EDC and more for a skinning knife, I imagine you'll be quite happy with one.

I agree about the blade shape...If we could convince buck to make put an Izula shaped blade on something we could have an esbuck or a besse or an Bos esse buck
