Buck mini-strider question

So I found a used Buck mini-strider at a pawn shop. I'd never been interested in the knife based on pics, but once I held it I loved it! Super-stout and surprisingly comfortable in the hand. Only problem was some blade play at the pivot. On that basis, after inspecting to see nothing was broken, I talked them down to $35. SWEET!

However, here's the problem - I can't seem to eliminate the blade play without making the pivot so tight the knife is near-impossible to open! Which is just WRONG, to have a knife this solid that wiggles. Is this a common problem with the Buck/Striders? Seems counter to their whole image.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I took it apart, cleaned it, lubed it up good . . . maybe I need to add another washer around the pivot or something?

thanks for any suggestion.

Simple solution,
Sent it back to Buck. I had the same problem with one of mine. They fixed it right up and sent it back sooner than I thought. Sure, you'll miss your new baby for a week or two., but she'll be good as new when you get her back. Of course, Buck has now moved- give a call and see about the turnaround time.

Its all a matter on how it was reassembled I believe. If it is the old style with the dual screws for adjustment it takes a bit of finesse to get it just right. Also when reassembling I have found that at lest on my large one you have to do everything in sequence. You also can't tighten the scales before you have the pivot adjusted. Wierd I know but do a search here and you will find some info on it. keepem sharp

longbow is correct the older style w/the dual pivots are tricky to get right, fool with it some if ya cant get it right send it to buck they'll fix ya up.

the loose pivot on the BS's is quite common. all 3 of mine had the same issue. what i did was tighten all the screws on the handle first, in the closed position. then unscrewed the pivot-screw, loctited it, screw it down again to have the least amount of sideway bladeplay, and let it settle for awhile. i think the only way to solve this problem is to accept a really stiff opening/closing-action. but it doesn't really matter, even if you tighten it real hard, the blade can still be flicked open because of its weight. i've come to accept that these folders are 'hard flickers' or '2handed openers'. if you leave it loose, then the blade will eventually come open in your pocket and you will cut yourself. also, because these knives are intended for hard use, the pivot will come loose OFTEN, so Loc-Tite'ing the pivot is almost a must.

in the end i sold of all mine though, and went for fixed blades for rough stuff.....

hmm, ok, so this is a tinkering project - right up a knife-nut's alley! Thanks for the info
