Well, I ordered a Buck model 55 the other day and it just arrived. To tell you the truth, I'm not real impressed with the quality of this knife. I've always loved the 110 and 112, but the fit and finish of this knife doesn't even come close. I feel like I just threw $30 away. Anybody else have the same observations?
I work as an Engineer and deal with quality concerns on a daily basis. I understand the need to keep the knife cheap enough to be affordable but this knife, although sharp with a good blade, looks as though it was rushed through production. I think I'll go back to my Victorinox as my EDC.:thumbdn:

The finish on the wood scales leaves a lot to be desired. They are scuffed and there are open pores. The silver rivet that holds the pivot sits very high on one side. High enough to have a sharp edge and catch on clothing.

You could send it back to Buck and they would probably give you a replacement, or you could try returning it through your vendor.

I guess that I don't think I should have to do either. I think that Buck is a great company and that the quality has always been there. I own quite a few 110's and 112's and have had no complaints. I've read others on this sight having issues and just chalked it up to people having unrealistic expectations. With this purchase, I now believe that the quality has suffered a hit at the Buck plant. I will continue to be a fan and user of their fine knives and just wanted to bring this to their attention. We all know that they can do better.

I agree, awhile back i had made some statements regarding the move and new factory not being up to par as far aS QUALITY ,and immediately some members jumped on my back and starting bashing me,but what they didn't understand was that i have a LOT of buck knives, and none ever any issues with anything, other than a sheath one time.

I know first hand what quality products Buck Knives are famous for,and when the expectations run high(as i'm sure all buck users have)and products come up short sometimes, you will have legitamate complaints tha t some take as bashing a product.

Thanks Razorblades. I in no way am bashing Buck nor am I expecting Joe H. to get on this thread and make everything better. Just my observation on a knife that I expected a lot more out of, like all of my other Bucks.

I have a 55 (2006) that is one of my favorite carrying knives. In fact, it's with me most of the time. I think that it's well made and an excellent knife for the price.

:D Razor don't take this personal, and I'm sorry you took it personal the first time, but we weren't "bashing" you for pointing out the problems with your knife. It was the manner in which you posted your complaints...
Also the part that threw me, was the blade stamp was crooked:confused:
Just makes a guy wonder thats all...

Sorry to hear the 55 wasn't up to your standards kodmag1.
We need to hear the bad too! (and good) :D

I wasn't really complaining too much about the stamp being crooked, just one more thing i guess, you know when you see a knife and its stamped ,but not completely,as if the stamp was hit harder on one side ,like many cheap taiwan knockoffs...The knife just reminded me of something that was rushed through the line, with no care or attention to detail, unlike what i have come to expect from Buck.Sorry if it offended anyone,i never mean to.

I might add ,i have a 55 and am very impressed with it,not a thing i don't like abourt it,i carry it aroud the sheeple as not to alarm them with a 110.

The wood on mine is good. I know how you feel when people tell you to just send it to Buck and it will be fixed, because then your nice new knife just cost you more money and time.

BUCK OFFERS A LIFETIME WARRANTY THAT IS PRETTY MUCH STAND ALONE IN THE INDUSTRY,Many knife companies offer a lifetime warranty, only later on down the road when you need something fixed, they give you the ol line,"you need your sales reciept,or the warranty is void because of misuse, etc, but not with Buck,i have a lot of respect for the company which is why i speak up when something isn't right,I am sure Buck wants to know what customers think of the quality of products, how else will they know if no feedback is given.Anyway,my 55 is a great little knife, perfect for cleaning rabbits, peeling apples, and when its dull i let my 5 year old nephew whittle on a bar of soap with it,he loves knives, just a bit too young for a sharpie yet.LOL!

To follow up, I hope that nobody here thinks that I'm bashing Buck either. I do love my Buck knives. My first hunting knife was a Buck 321. Used it on pheasant, rabbit, and squirrel. My first "big game" knife was a Bucklite 442 (I think that was the model number). Used it to dress my first antelope. I have a few 110's now and I use every one of them. I have a custom shoppe 110 with a BG-42 blade, sambar stag handles, finger grooved, and a partially serrated blade. That knife has been through 20+ deer. My girl friend bought me a Cabelas S30V 110 that is by far the sharpest knife I have. Boned out 2 deer this last year with it and it's still as sharp as new. I've got a titanium handled 110 (model 560 I think) that is in my truck all of the time. I bought a couple of 2005 Christmas tin 100's 2 years ago. One is still in the tin and the other was sent to Leroy Remer to have a BG-42 blade put on it along with Amber Bone handles. I gave it to my son for his birthday last September and he cleaned his first deer with it. Finally, I have 2 112's. One is the founder's edition still in the tin and the other was sent to Leroy for a Damascus blade and Ram horn handles. The fit and finish on all of these is excellent. Not only do I love to look at them, they are all used and will be handed down to my son.
The 55 is still in my pocket. I love the size and the design. I figure it will get beat up being carried everyday so that's what I will do.

Sweet bunch of bucks you got there, sometimes i forget that bucks are faory made, most come out so high in the quality end of things, its hard to believe they aren't all handmade.
