Just how "collectible" is this knife?

This is the only info I have on it:

Brand: Buck Knives
Release: Limited Edition Custom Build Out
Production: 450
Model: 890650BO-B
Special Note: Factory Build Out
Features: "This is a very sweet Tactical/Hunting knife by Buck. The blade is 420HC Steel from the 650 Knighthawk and the handle is the highly desired G10 in Black from the Strider 890. These are very limited in number and not mass produced. This knife is sure to be a collector's item down the road and when they are gone, they are gone."

This one? All I really know about them is that they were offered on a closeout list this year that BCCI members got. I don't know how many were made, but there were 228 available.
Collectable? Depends on who you ask I suppose. Not for me, but I'm sure there are others that think they are. Collectabilty is in the eye of the beholder.:D

There were only 450 made of this special knife. Here is a small write up I did on my web site. I sold a few to support my BuckMaster habit...

"Buck Knives has created a once in a lifetime Strider 890 and Nighthawk 650 Hybrid mix. Hunting, Tactical and Military use! We can confirm one of these knives is in Iraq and one of these knives is in Afghanistan as WE sent them over there for a family member and a good friend. They among the many fighting for us are in our Prayers!!
This very limited "Fantasy Build" run of 450 total made .
The "NightRider" named by us !!!!! (Sounds better than a Striderhawk!)

Buck Knives only released these here, in Post Falls, ID... So it does pay to live up here in the Pacific Northwest!
We were able to buy this great limited "BUILD OUT" Fantasy creation knife during the 2008 BUCK KNIVES Factory Clearance Sale on April 19th 2008 located here in Post Falls, ID.

Description:
This is a brand new Strider 890 and Nighthawk 650 hybrid created for any Hunting, Military and Tactical knife use you may have need for. This knife was a Factory Fantasy Creation Limited Edition. The story from CJ Buck himself was that BUCK KNIVES had 450 Strider G10 handle-pairs left over as they discontinued the Strider knife line. The G-10 handle-pairs were rather expensive and BUCK doesn’t waste anything. Someone thought, "Hey let's use these up and surprise everyone at the Factory Clearance Sale with something no one has ever seen!”. So BUCK Knives modified a current combat Tactical 650 knife blade around the G-10 scales in a Fantasy Hybrid never to be repeated knife!

Again BUCK KNIVES only built 450 of these rare knives. They are stamped, "BUCK", and, "U.S.A. only". No model numbers or anything else on the blade.THIS in itself is an unlikely occurrence for Post 1986 Buck Knives!!! I do not think there are ANY left as MANY members of the Buck Collectors Club made great efforts to gain possession of at least one to hold on too for there collections and displays of unlike and custom Buck knives!

Overall, 12 inches or 31 cm long. A very well balanced knife with a good, solid feel in your hand,1/25 inch thick full tang. This is a capable Hunting, Tactical, and Military knife. The blade is a Highly Modified NIGHTHAWK 650 based blade, it is 6 inches of 420HC steel with a non-reflective bead blast finish and of course the famous Buck Knives edge. The 650 Nighthawk Knife was tested for destruction and was spoken highly of as one Extreme knife for the money! Now with the STRIDER G10 scale handles for non-slip, we don’t think you can beat it! This one time Hybrid Knife at the handle is about 5 1/25 long and a little over 1/2 inch thick it just fills your hand and you know it will take care of business. This knife comes with a Buck-marked nylon sheath that has a leg tie-down and will ship in the factory box. The box has the model number 890/650-BO, with a production date of 4/08/08 to 4/10/08 and CAT. # 8591"

I Personally have 5 of these for myself that I was privileged to be able to have all signed . In my humble opinion, this knife will be a valuable collectors item very soon. The Factory is out for sure. The original cost was $80 THE first time they were offered.

Rich -

I don't recall if you posted your own web site URL earlier, but I don't think it's against the rules if you link us to the Buck reviews/pics on your site... :)

Maybe just a general URL...I think we can find our way around to the reviews... :D

Hi Farmer Brown,

I bought one of these about a year ago. It's a very nice no nonsense blade. One of the things I liked a lot was the knife has very good balance...it will make a very good throwing knife. So I bought 2 more for deer camp this year.

Thanks for all the info, guys.

I'm just waiting for mine to arrive through the mail. Didn't realize its potential value initially; it just seemed like something well - made...

One of the absolute requirements I have for larger knives is a one - piece construction... And this is one of the most elegant full - tang designs I've seen.

If you like full tang, you may want to look for one of the 819 Signature Series in S30V with Walnut handles.

There were 1,000 of these made.

That sheath is also a left over that Buck used up.
It is a Nighthawk 651 Intruder pigsticker sheath. ALSO a real Rare knife.

Both the Pigsticker and the NightRider will be worth alot more in the future.:)

One of my friend's was here on leave (SPEC OP's). I gave him a 890/650 NightRider as a gift making him promise to bring it back and I would get it signed by MR CJ and Mr Chuck Buck for him. More importantly I just want him back okay but you catch the drift. He loved the balance, ability to keep a edge and took it to the sandbox to play.

Not regretting getting this piece one bit, it's a keeper for sure!
