I was wondering if anyone knows about what happened to this multi-tool that Buck was bringing out. I even saw it in a Cabelas catalog and then all of the sudden it was pulled. If someone knows please post a reply

I've talked to a lot of people about the Buck Navigator, including a sales representative from Buck Knives, but nobody seems to know what happened to this tool. After a very intense (and no doubt expensive!) advertising campaign, as near as I can tell NO tools were shipped to any distributors. Why not? I've sent a few emails to Buck, but no reply.

If you are not familiar with the Navigator, I've included some photos of one of mine. The most obvious feature is the carabiner, which is kind of cool. The tool itself is made of laminated plates of steel, like the Schrade Tough Tools.

(The other tool in the pictures is a standard Leatherman PST, for size comparison.)

Anyhow, I am left with Tsquare's original question: what happened to the Navigator?

How did you manage to get one?

Tsquare , jooliesews spotted a group of 6 of them on ebay from an individual . 2 in black , 2 in blue , 2 in pink . we went together and got all 6 and split them . They seem to be the navigator and they are labeled with the Buck logo but they are inscribed as being the Whitiker . We are speculating that the ones that we got are some prototypes .

posibly prototypes or fakes. Buck did NOT release the Navigator. There is a thred in The Buck forum on this.

I am familiar with the counterfeit knives (and other items) currently flooding into this country from overseas. However, I have reason to believe that these few Navigators we obtained were pre-production samples or prototypes from Buck. Why they never followed through and released these tools however, is still a mystery to me.

As stated by Buck the tools did not meet their standards. This is not the first time Buck cancelled an overseas order. The ECCO was first made in Japan and they could not fulfill Bucks due date. Buck made the last batch in El Cajon.

Interesting.
Thanks for the info guy g. I had not realized that Buck had made any statements regarding the Navigator.

over in the Buck forum there is a short thread on the navigator. Larry doesnt work for Buck , but he is closer to the info than most anyone else.
