Has anyone got one of these yet? If so, how do you like it?

I don't yet, but I have been contemplating it. They look very well designed, esp. for their intended purpose!! ;) I only wish they had a different handle material in the Avid model.

I usually use a 123 fillet and an assortment of other Bucks when butchering deer, but I may have to get one of those for 2010 deer season!!!

Agreed on the handles. I think the Avid should have rosewood.
I'm taking a wait and see on this one. I'd like to handle it before I purchase.

Me too! (OR at least some comparison pics on here ;) ) Its design looks good, but there really isnt much to set the avid apart from the select (IMHO) I was hoping local stores would carry them, but none here...yet.

I think this thread will generate some photos :D

I don't have one either but I'll bet they would make a great fish cleaning knife, probably better than the small hunter and I know it's good.
The rubber handle just turns me off and will more than likely keep me from buying one. It's probably way better than the rosewood if your hands are covered in fish gore though!

Yep,at least the 581 should have a different handle.Looks like a real useful knife,I bet you could carve a turkey in nothing flat.:D

Looks like a right-hand design. Bummer for those of us left-handed folks. Understandable, we're in the minority.

My dad is left handed, I had him try out my other ergo hunter knives, he fell in love immediately. Yes, it is a right handed design, but its not so drastic that it doesnt fit a left hander! Try holding one before you dismiss it! ;)

Well Fellas, has anyone bought one of these and planning on putting it to work this coming season?

I just pulled out my Ergo Hunter (BO, rosewood, 420HC, & nylon sheath) that I bought as part of last summers sales and handled it a bit. The rosewood handles are absolutely exquisite. Without a doubt some of the nicest handles I've ever seen.

Anyway, still looking for some first hand experiance with the boning knife.

Also question for you insiders...any talk of a Boning knife in the Pro trim level?

I like the looks of it but I see what you mean about the wooden handles . They have good eye appeal perhaps little actual difference . DM

I've always processed my own deer and elk, and have never used an actual boning knife.

Are there really that many people that use them ?

Nice pics......thanks.

I always use a 121 for boning and if I want to buy another knife for boning.......I'll buy a 121.

:)

But it sure looks like a good knife that would do the job very well.

338, I process all mine as well and I use most any knife I want to test but I do prefer the boning style knives . ie. 121, Empress Trio and some of Buck's kitchen knives . This one looks like it should do well for boning . DM

I do too.

But this upswept blade is intriguing me. I'm going to have to get one just to check it out. It may end up in the kitchen but then it'll get used a lot.

I happen to like the sheath a lot. I assume it has a hard plastic liner too.
