I just bought a Cadet last night. I notice that on the main blade next to the 303 is a symbol that looks like a backwards C. What's that about?

That is the year symbol that indicates the year of manufacture for the blade on your knife. If the corners of your knife's symbol are square, the year is 2000. If the corners are rounded, the year is 1996. Go to Buck's website for a listing of all the year marks.

Dean,
Welcome. This is not exactly a "newbie" question.

This will get you to BUCK'S YEAR CODES. The path to their location is not immediately obvious if you are trying to locate them directly from Buck's homepage. They actually have two FAQs. The first is obvious under the heading "About Buck" listed there as "FAQs" but the second, with the year codes, is less so. They are to be found not under the FAQ heading but under the "Technology and Innovation" heading as "Tech FAQs". I had to search for them when Buck's new website first came online.
