Buck nighthawk- some questions......

I bought a buck nighthawk back in 1995. Its been a great knife after I reprofiled the edge to a more user friendly angle for resharpening.
OK, Is this a full tang knife? I cant tell with the handle. I imagine it prolly is something similar to the KaBar usmc knife.
And what kind of steel is it? The only markings are "Buck 650 / usa pat pending". It came with the blade coated black.

Not a full tang. 420HC steel.
