I got an old buck night hawk kicking around. what do you think POS or what. nIts definitly not nearly as useful as a FFG blade found on an rc6. I was thinking of getting a decent sheath for it to use in the woods but I'm not sure its even worth it. I'm definitly gonna pick up a 6 when I have the funds in the future, I guess this will have to do for now. A blade is better than no blade. Its actually a stout knife, just not all that useful, long pointy tip, thick blade with a very steep hollow grind on it.
and very hard to put any kind of an edge on due to the fact that the factory ground it as steep as a garden hoe.

I have an old one the all black full sized model I just reprofiled the crap out of it and made a sheath for it and it`s not too bad, you can baton with it without fear and they are a hoot to throw.I only paid $20 for the one I have.To reprofile I just laid the blade flat on a stone like how you stone out a ding in a straight razor.

I love my Nighthawk. Mine is scary sharp (after a reprofile on the lansky). Sheath is decent and light. Blade is THICK and can real take a beating. The 420HC (btw.. Bucks 420HC is the best 420 in the business.) holds a decent edge and wont chip or break and is easy to sharpen. The grip is very comfortable. It is far from a POS. Although I dont base what knives I buy on these tests, www.knifetests.com shows just how much the nighthawk can take.

well, mabe I'll order a sheath for it, any suggestions, I'm not spending a bunch of cash on a kydex rig for it.

I found it was cheaper to learn to make my own kydex than to have one made or buy one ,it was still cheaper to screw up a few times, plus you get to have what you want. I have found lots of info on making kydex sheaths here on the forum.

I had the short Nighthawk for a while. Great knife for the money. As others have said, Bucks 420HC is great steel.

My roommate had one that lasted him his 4 years in the Corps, then he was traveling one day and decided to hit up Smoky Mountain Knife Works, while he was in there he ran into a kid fresh out of basic looking for a good knife. He walked him out to his truck and gave him the Nighthawk, told him it would serve him well and when he gets out to pass it on. Pretty cool I thought!

Buck designed the Nighthawk for the military, so it is tough as hell. It's no RAT, but not all knives can be perfect.......
