I recently bought a Buck Nighthawk (bead blasted non tanto model). Feels, looks great and what a price! Can anyone tell me what kind of steel it's made of and how it might hold up? I like the feel better than my SOG Seal 2000, but have also read where someone broke the tip off one. Can't seem to find much info on the Nighthawks in the archives.

Yes, the nighthawk is a great buy. The handle and feel are wonderful, for a large knife. The steel is, I believe, Bucks's standard 420HC. You'll find that it doesn't hold an edge as long as more exotic steels, but is easy to sharpen, especially in field conditions. The Nighthawk is a heck of a knife, if only it came with a left-handed sheath...

Mine is the black, non-tanto, and the edge 2000 makes for one sharp, useful knife.

Should you break a tip, Buck will fix it. There is no better customer service in this or any other business.

Peace,

Al Folsom

Then if he gets mad, he'll be a mile away, and barefoot!
