Good afternoon folks:

I have been looking at the Buck Nighthawk for some time and am thinking of purchasing it for an all around camp/hunting knife (here in NY Adirondack Mountains).

Can anyone offer any advice/comments?

Thanks!

Oh, sorry - last question---

Are the Nighthawks without the black oxide coating still available?

personally i feel the nighthawk is one of the better 'bang-for-your-BUCK' knives out there  the sheath sux, but a great all-around user. not sure about the availability of the uncoated blades...

This Nighthawk was my primary saddle bag knife for a few years. Like pittsteele said, lot's of "bang for the Buck  :o"

This one's been batoned through hardwood, dug holes, pounded tent stakes, opened a few cans, just basically been USED !

Takes a great edge and holds it pretty well.

The black oxide coating didn't stay long, most of it came off on an oil soaked rag.

Now, it's the resident "go to knife" in my bike shed.

You won't regret getting one !

I love my nighthawk, and I also love the sheath, but hey thats me :)

The bead blasted blades are discontinued but they can be found yet if you look hard enough ;)

Before you go I must add that I prefer the 650, to the 655 short nighthawk ;)
Both are nice but the 650 is NICE!!!!!!!! ;)

I agree. I am going with the 650.

Actually, I won't be picking it up until Saturday and I hate waiting for a new knife!

Love the nighthawk, good sturdy thick hackin choppin blade. Did I mention slicin?

My short nighthawk wouldn't fit in my 119 nylon sheath. It looked like a go,but bound up about 3/4 way down.It might cram in there, but i still need the sheath for the 119.

It is a VERY stout knife...for general camp use it would be great. I don't see a person causing any harm to this knife without trying. It's not a great fine-cutter, but will last you and yours for a long while. I had the bead blasted model and gave it to my mother...she loves it! I'm thinking about getting another just to have around.

Hey...anyone know where Messy has been? Sirusly. Haven't seen him post.
For some reason, this post reminded me of him.

I had one that I traded (and liked the trade) but I missed my Hawk, so I got another one :)
