Buck Nobleman Texturing

Is or was the texturing on the nobleman intended to be used as a fingernail file? It does work for this purpose, but I am wondering if it was intended to be. I haven't seen it advertised as a feature of the knife.

I 've used the handle on my little Scholar the same way, but I think the texturing is mostly for looks.

The texturing was there for both looks and grip. Thats cool that it works for a file too!
