Hello knifewizards, et al. I'm looking for a new knife to take with me to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmarron, NM this summer. I'm looking heavily at the NXT1 plain blade, so all of you comments are welcome. I currently own a Buck 110 Folding Hunter that i've had since i was 15, and a $10 Meijer Special locking liner that i use to open and cut boxes at work, and as a letter opener. If any of you have other suggestions, basically what i'm looking for is in the 20 - 50 dollar price range, locking liner, good steel (420HC or better) doesn't weigh much and has a comfertable, synthetic grip (so hopefully they wont make me put it in the bear bag at night!)

thanks for all of your help, knife aficionados!

the NXT is a nice knife. you may also want to look at the Odyssey. It is found in plain edge as well. The blade is about a 1/4 " longer as is the handle. The NXT sits lower in the pocket than the Odyssey. Both one handed liner locks and would compliment your 110 well.
take care.

Ok, whats the difference between the 181 and the 186? I'm not to keen on spotting differences.

thanks,

greetings again!! The 181 has ATS 34 steel and the 186 uses the 420HC steel. on the partially serrated versions, i feel they perform about equal. (opinion) I like the 420HC and I like the ATS 34 also, so i would not pass a chance on the ATS 34. Both are good knives, you wont be disappointed.:)
