So, I got a chance to handle one of the new Buck Omnis lately and here's what I have to say. WOWZA. These things rock. I'm a big fan of zytel handled lockbacks like this one. I was also a huge fan of the Bantam series upon first handling them, even though I was slightly put off by the word Taiwan stamped on the blade as well. Now, I knew the Bantams were made off shore when I bought mine so it wasn't a surprise but it is still a little disappointing.
Now, here is my criticism of the Omni series. It doesn't come in a size that I can EDC. I don't and won't carry a knife in a sheath on the belt. Whether it be a horizontal, vertical, or other configuration sheath, I just don't use them. So, I guess what I'm wondering is are there others here who feel the same way I do. I wish there was a version of the Omni that was sized down to approximately say 3.75" closed with say a 2.5" blade. It wouldn't even need a pocket clip, IMO, as I would be willing to carry an Omni of this size loose in my pocket. I know that I would not only buy one for myself but also everyone I know would receive one as a gift before the year is over.
On a different note, it is good to see a synthetic handled lockback that is made in the U.S.A. as they have been going the way of the Dodo in the last several years. So, thank you to Buck for bringing this design to market, but please consider making a more EDC friendly size.
