I recently purchased a Buck 636 "processor". I'm having mixed feelings about it. Usually, when I hold a new Buck knife, it puts a smile on my face. This one doesn't, yet. I do like the blade shape, but the handle just doesn't feel right to me. I understand that these are designed to be ultra lightweight, and it certainly is that. How do you all feel about them?

The other issue I'm having is deciding on how to carry it. The kydex is fine, it retains the knife well, and adds little to the weight. But this is the first sheath I've seen without a belt loop or clip of some kind. Am I supposed to just tie it to my leg? My apologies for asking a dumb question, but I'm not shy about such things. Thanks in advance for your input!

I carry mine in a medkit where the slim packing nature is helpful. A little paracord makes the handle much more comfortable but also adds a little thickness.

I like them for what they're designed for, lighter duty slicing that packs really slim.

Thank you all for sharing your insight. This knife may just not be my "cup o tea", but I want to give it a fair chance before delegating it to kitchen duty. I bought it on a whim, because its important to try new things now and then. I'm perfectly happy with my 100 series knives, and don't "need" anything else, but I wanted to see what all the hype was about.

ETA: Also I really can't imagine needing to carry this knife. I might use it around the campsite. But when I reach for a knife, I usually go to my hip, so...

I got one of these recently as a home grill knife/camp cooking knife. I never thought of the 636 as something to carry on me, and more of in my bag or camp kitchen kit.

The handle to me is comfortable enough when cutting up veggies or meat, or breaking down a chicken, etc. If using it as sort of an all around utility knife, I could see how it could be a little uncomfortable after a while. I would think the other blade shapes would be more appealing for that though.

I should probably clarify: I bought this 636 as a light duty food prep knife for barbecues, camping. I don't intend to fight off large predators, or build any log cabins with it. Perhaps "carry" isn't the correct term. "Wear" might be closer. I'd just like to keep it close at hand when there are no hooks handy. As for the feel of the handle, I've not used it to cut anything yet, I'm just going by initial impressions from holding it last night. I'll use it tonight to quarter up a chicken breast, and see how I like it.

The 636 did well on the chicken last night. It slices quite well. But I just can't get a comfortable grip on the handle. My Mom expressed an interest in it, so I'm going to let her try it out for a while. It does seem to fit her hands better than mine. No worries, there's a reason that they make so many different shapes and sizes. Thanks again to everyone for their input.
