OK, i've had my 'el cheapo' Buck Paklite for about a week so haven't given it a thorough test - YET!

However, i was playing around with an idea and took special note of the hole in the handle at the 'choil'. I began wondering if it would accomodate my ferrocerium steel.

In fact as it turns out, not only does is accomodate my ferrocerium, but it serves very well as a striking surface!!!!! No damage to the edge and super easy to use.

For the price (~$15), i'm liking this little dickens more and more!!!

I do believe this knife is the best buy for the money. I'm thoroughly in love. I'd be interested in more Paklite models, that's for sure. You simply can't pack more blade or secure grip in a knife that small.

Hey 6shooter - sorry i don't have any pics to illustrate. I need to get on that - i love photography (another hobby).

You're right - the hole isn't for carrying.

Simply put the ferrocerium in the hole, angle (or 'twist') the knife in your hand so the edges of the hole contact the ferrocerium rod and push it away briskly to spark as you normally would. 'Viola - you've got spark!!!!

For ~$15, the Paklite Skinnner is really tough to beat, but i haven't tried every knife like it in it's price range either. If anyone has i sure would like to read their experiences!

If the Buck 440HC steel with Bos heat-treat holds up, i'm not gonna nit-pick other stuff to death just to find faults. I'm pleased with it b/c i know what i need from this type of blade and this little gem gets the job done for wayyyyy cheap!

I do wish the blade design was not so "drop point-ish', but thats more of an aesthetic preference than a funtionality short-coming. The handle is really ergo-compliant for slicing/cutting tasks and i don't think i'd have a problem with grip-slip. I wouldn't want to try to puncture a car door. Admittedly, i'm pretty stab-motion evasive in general, but that's just me. Anyway, i have a Trailmaster for that!!!!

How did i goof this thread with a "Nylon" caption?!? What the heck is this and how can i remove it?
