Buck phenolic handle problem…solved

Love Buck fixed blades but that slippery phenolic handle has always been problematic. I’ve read about people sanding them, texturing them by using a soldering iron, etc but wanted something a little less permanent. Found a very good solution (I’m sure it’s been done before). Shrink wrap tubing. Found the perfect stuff on Amazon. They come in all sizes and colors. I used the 30mm diameter size and it’s a perfect fit on the 120. 10 seconds with a heat gun and it’s not going anywhere. Perfect traction, doesn’t look bad at all imo. Now, do I do the same on my lovely Cocobolo handled Bucks also? 🤔

I use truck bed paint in a rattle can while wet i sprinkle a little sand into the paint before it dries works good I’m just about anything that you need a better grip for.

Thanks for posting this, i have some rubbery krinkle tape i cut into panels, its used for pistols, it works good but this looks much better; Too bad Buck doesnt mill in some checkering or something into those grips, they are too slippery the way they come from Buck.

looks Good!

I have used silicone tape on Busse/SYKCO knives a bunch, because of their diminutive handles.... I like it Alot, but yours looks Better!

X-Tube Heat Shrink Wrap Tubing,it comes in different colors and sizes.Red yelow blue black green; I got the 30mm like the OP did ;you can get about a 40" piece for under 10.00, enough to do 10-12 handles.Would be great on a Kabar or similar leather stack handle or a bicycle, among other things. Now im looking for stuff to wrap in this ! Hats off to the OP !

Based on the pictures, this is one of the best ideas I have seen here. Hope it wears well over time.

I think it should wear well, feels very durable. The beauty of this is, cut it off when it’s worn out and shrink wrap another piece. No glue, no mess, no permanent alteration to the handle. I’ve tried to shift it under pressure and it doesn’t budge. Traction is really good, feels about the same as my Terava 100 and 140 handles now. So far so good

Bicycle inner tube and tennis grip tape can be used to much the same effect. The shrink tubing occurred to me, but I never had any on hand in the right size.

The thing about the inner tube is it doesnt look as good as this stuff ; its not as uniform as the rubber on this...
