My question is why can buck put out the vantage pro with g10, s30v blade and be in $50 range, but then the ergo, alpha huters are in the $75-100+. They don't seem to be any better to warrant the price increase. Any thoughts?

My only guess is that looking at the Vantage Pro it is built for streamlined manufacture. Economy of scale, maybe? Just a guess.

Yeah, the folding Ergo may be harder and more complicated to produce, but wow, there's a really big difference in the price. I just can't see it being that much more costly to make. Molded rubber vs. G10?

Just guessing again:

Production run influences price. There are may be more applications for the Vantage, so a larger market. Once you are tooled up to do a run, it doesn't cost so much to do a volume run. Price per item drops.

I guess that the vantage can reach a larger crowd. I really like the vantage pro. And I would like to see more options in the future. I just think they limit themselves by price on knives like the dorado, kalinga. They look to be nice knives but what you get for the money, those knives to me don't justifiy the price, like the vantage does. Even look at the CSAR-T. Really thick blade, liners. G-10 scales, and premium blade steel, and you can get it chaeper than the kalinga s30v model. I know that s30v cost a little more but that csar-t is a lot of knife!

I'll bet that if the Ergo Pro folder cost less IT would reach a larger crowd.:D

Definately! I would like one, but not for that money. Then I will order a custom shop 110 :D

I think thats probably why the kalinga pros are discontinued though, cost to manufacture and price point probably werent coming out well.

I bet the egod folder is making coin, but I wonder how they are selling. The vantage is a great knife at a fantastic price!

Me personally I think the Alpha hunters are a better value for the dollar comparing to the ergos also. But thats just me.

Agree 100%. I'm really having a hard time getting past the rubber handles. To me they just don't fit on a knife commanding a premium price. ;)

On the ergo folder, yeah, thats my sticking point as well. I would buy the Omni then with the Sandvik blade for 1/3 the price (IMHO Only) :D

I'm not knocking the use of rubber as a handle material in general. I know alot of hunters think its the greatest thing going. It's just in this application that it bugs me.

Right! Me neither!
I would definately choose a Kalinga Pro folder or alpha hunter though.
I have one rubber handled knife, a Buckcote Protege. Its a $30.00 knife and I love it at that price ;)

It is good that Buck offers all these models, different strokes for different folks!
