Buck Prince has lost its "snap"

I just bought a Buck Prince c. 2 weeks ago. While I like the knife a lot, as of yesterday I noticed that it had lost its "snap" while closing. That is, up until yesterday, when I would close the knife it would get close to closing, then the spring (I assume) would snap the blade the rest of the way closed rather forcefully. Now this doesn't happen; the knife closes rather anemically with virtually no snap at all - I pretty much have to close it manually all the way.

Anyone have any idead what is causing this? Should I send it back to Buck?

Yep, and after you get the lint out flush the blade pivot area out with a light oil like 3-IN-1. Place a few drops into the pivot with the blade closed and work the blade open and closed (but not all the way open as the lock will tend to shoot oil out). If the oil that comes out on the tang is dirty looking it is likely just some polishing compound that got left when the knife was washed out at the factory. Repeat the above until the oil comes out clean and your knife should have that snap back.

Note: It is never a good idea to snap traditional knives closed as it seems to accelerate wear and if the spring is strong enough it can actually cause the blade to hit the backspring causing a small dent in the edge.

That's exactly what I thought for years, I have always used that method of closing it, I hate snaping it shut.

Even though the "kick" is supposed to stop the blade from hitting the inside of the blade channel, I still dont really trust them, I have seen used folders that they kicker actually deteriates the inside channel in turn the edge will be able to contact spring.
