I got a new 392 Buck Pro-line and it came with a free "lifetime sharpening". Can anyone shed light on this? I can't fine anything on the Buck website about Pro-line. The lifetime sharpening says that all I have to do is send it to Buck and wait 6-8 weeks for return. The Pro-line logo has to be on the blade.
When did Buck start this and are there any other benefits with getting Pro-line?

"Pro-Line" is an inhouse branding of Cabelas. Sometimes there are some exclusive variations or features such as serrations but can also be just a standard Buck knife. It's only a benefit if you like the "Pro-Line" printing on your blade or there is some particular feature you like about the knife. Any Buck knife has a lifetime warranty otherwise. I suppose lifetime sharpening could be considered an added value but do you really want to give up your knife for 6-8 weeks just to have it sharpened? If you can't sharpen it yourself for the cost of postage I'm sure you could find someone locally to do it .....

The Pro-Line benefits make a good selling point espically should the blade need to be rebeveled. Its an additional perk that only Cabela's offers to their customers. I don't know of any one else offering this. Some members have taken advantage of this service and have posted here that it only took barely 2 weeks. DM

Thanks, guys. I've never had any trouble keeping an edge on my knives myself. Don't know why my son thought I needed a lifetime sharpening. I am thankful that he cared enough to get me another Buck.

If I had a son that sent me any Buck knife, I wouldn't say anything but Thanks! DM

+1 WB,

I bet your son just picked a nice Buck from Cabelas for you he thought you would enjoy. I'm sure he did not look at the blade etch or care about the lifetime sharpening. But, if you use and abuse it they will polish the scrapes off when they put on a new edge;).
