hey guys any info on the recluse hunters you could share maybe some pics. like the fire feathers recluse, the recluse antique gold hunter, the fire mist green recluse hunter, the red pearl recluse hunter, looking at buying some of them and would like some info and input from you knowledgable fellows

I would contact the seller, and ask them if those knives are an aftermarket customization done by someone other than Buck, or are they a run of knives done by Buck.

Those are aftermarket and no longer have the Buck warranty.

That's what I would think but according to the website...

This All-American Black Widow Folding Hunter is about 4 3/4 inches long (folded/fixed) and comes complete with a Limited Lifetime Manufacturer Warranty.

What do I do with a defective knife?
All knives are under a manufacture lifetime warranty, unless stated otherwise. You can send your knife directly to the manufacturer anytime OR you may return it to Deadwood Knives® up to 30 days from the purchase date.

Exactly..... super misleading.....
I did a quick search, and there are threads here dating back to '07 asking/discussing the same thing.
I even.asked the seller on one of their current auctions, out of curiosity, but haven't gotten a reply.................

What I did see, in the related topics here, was that they are aftermarket scales, and then laser etched.....

I bought the white pearl recluse hunter from that seller several years ago. It's pretty well done. If you want that one contact me.
I would not expect any warranty from Buck on it though. However, if it's your thing I would go with it.

I got a reply from the seller on the bay.....

Thanks for your inquiry. I tired to get some information on these for you, however, I wasn't able to get much. These knives are made by Buck and come directly from the manufacturer. However, Buck may send the items somewhere to have the pattern etched in instead of doing it at the factory. This is pretty common in the knife industry, but I can not be sure which method they use. Sorry about that. Please feel free to email us if you have any other questions,

Seems scandalous to me.....

THX for the the research and such, so it would seem that the recluse knives that would be on ebay or at least most would be an aftermarket modification and therefor not in fact be a Buck collectable if I understand correctly.

That is the way I would see it. They are not a Buck collectible. I bought mine to torment my Wife since she hates recluse spiders. With the white scales it's got a high "bling" factor. Maybe a good BBQ knife for certain locals. Also, the # engraved on them is on the bolster in an odd method.

this was the reply from vendor on the bay when I asked..."if the knife I bought had aftermarket scales/inlays or if it was produced in the buck factory 100%"

ok so I have spoken with the vendor from e-bay on these knives and he is telling me that they are in fact a customization but he is saying that they were done by MICHEAL PRATER, back in the year 2008 x 2, 2009 x 5, 2007 x 3. all knives are different customizations to the scales but the tang stamps with year and country all seem to be legit. Is there any truth to this? also told that they will be getting in touch with Joe Hauser in regards to the warranty and have him e-mail me...which I do not believe will happen. Hoping Joe has time for this but I know he is a busy man.

Buck factory has its own in house custom shop and their output is Buck thru and thru plus you are covered by the Buck warranty. I will personally vouch for Joe Houser and the Buck family members.

If you want to rearrange a Buck knife further then there are the outside manglers who make their own arrangements for their products. Leroy Remer is an outstanding member of that talented group. I own a few of his works and I can vouch for him.

To clarify any possible confusion of whose creation a particular knife can to attributed to then examine the "certificate of authenticity" in order to verify the origin of the item. If it is signed by a Buck family member, including Joe Houser, then it is a Buck.

okay thank you so much for your info/input Oregon
I will in fact take a look at the COA to verify for proof
