Hey guys,

I was on the Buck website and noticed the new partnership between Buck and Remington. Do you think we will see some new models or do you think they will be Buck knives branded with the Remington logo?

What are your thoughts on this?

Reminton firearm with a Buck knife combo, like what Ruger did with the 10/22 110 combo set. Just my guess.

Here is a clip of part of the press release. I'm curious what this means, Buck will be a "official licensee of Remington cutlery"
Does that mean manufacturing knives for Remington or selling Remington knives within the Buck retail network.

I don't know but here are two items, one from chuckhawks.com and the other from the Bear & Son Catalog 2016. It sounds as though Bear & Son was manufacturing knives for Remington, but the relationship was short lived.

As noted above, Bear & Son Cutlery began making the annual Bullet Knife for Remington in 2006. This partnership must have proved agreeable to both parties, because in July 2014 the firms announced, "In 2015, Bear & Son will become (Remington's) exclusive licensee for cutlery." Chuckhawks.com

We are proud to say that Bear & Son Cutlery has the exclusive licensing agreement to manufacture Remington® Cutlery. – Bear & Son Cutlery catalog 2016

My February Smoky Mountain catalog arrived today. The cover and first 4 inside pages are Remington. Are they all made by Bear & Son?

If Bear & Son has the exclusive licensing agreement to manufacture Remington Cutlery, one would think so.

With Buck's new agreement, there are a couple of possibilities: 1) Bear & Son could make the knives and Buck would have a marketing license, 2) Buck will take over the manufacturing, or 3) neither of the two and something else is going on. Who knows?

I love the Remington spec ed bullet in that catalog. Maybe now Buck will start offering similar knives.

Smith and Wesson, and Browning, sell some awfully cheap knives with their names on them. It is nice to see Remington go higher end. That is not a knock on Bear and Son, I've never seen their knives.

the very poor way freedom group has run remington im not a fan of remington new and current stuff under freedom group. old remington was and still am a big fan. this feels like a black mark on the good and proud buck name to me, but just the way i feel. i get why others wouldnt feel this way.

JB,
I don't see it as a black mark IF Buck is making the knives and have the authority to make them as they see fit.

Now, if Buck is selling Bear and Son stuff with the Remington name on it that is a bit different and not as good in my mind.

Will have to wait and see I guess. For me, this is still not as bad as when Buck worked with "strider" and bought into his lies/stolen valor.

fair points, Sir. well said. appreciate your take on it.

This is great news, looking forward to what Buck will come up with.

In regards to Remington, I see that they are finally focusing on quality and getting back to a good state. The new CEO will turn them around, mark it. Heck, my new 2016 produced 870 Express is just as smooth as my old Wingmaster.

Not so sure if buck will be making Remington knives as bear & son currently makes them, but it would be better if buck did because the Remington's are currently sloppy users and not fine collectors pieces.

I think this is big news for both Remington and Buck knife folks. But, we need to see how it works out. Hopefully, it will be like the old Buck/Camillus contract production. Remington will contract with Buck to make knives, hopefully some folders, and we will at least get some Buck marked knives per Remington design. Maybe see a stockman with a shotgun choke tube wench for a blade. Or maybe a big stockman or trapper for you guys that favor and dream of such a model. Will watch for details. You guys on the Buck facebook page keep us that don't do FB informed on what you hear.

Here we go I will start the wild speculation, hope to see a classic looking big trapper or stockman. Buck will make the Remington model with green sawcut scales and tangs stamped with Remington ID and shield that says Remington . Then the Buck clone will be offered in black sawcut scales, tangs stamped like regular Buck 300s with the old knife bolt and hammer shield. Vote against Lamiepoxy wood scales and blue shield. I would guess fancy metal is not in the cards.

Agreed. I see this relationship being similar to the Redhead brand Buck makes for BPS. It's a BPS design but Buck made.

Remember the "good old days" when Remington knives were being made by Camillus?
That was pretty cool. I have a couple of Remington branded Cam knife blanks purchased when Cam closed the factory and sold off the inventory that had not yet completed the manufacturing process.

I have a Remington/Cammilus bannana trapper, that's a favorite. In the really good ole days Remington knives were made by Remington :) Pick up a vintage one, you'll enjoy it. Some of the less popular patterns are not too expensive if the knife is not mint.
