Hi guys I was wondering about 2 things about sending knives to buck.

1. How fast do they usually take to come back?

2. Do they usually repair or replace them?

They repair or replace based on condition. Never really know till they look at it.

Turn around will depend on amount of repairs they have at the time. I have gotten some back in under 5 weeks.

What PR said!

I had a tempest in and they replaced it.
I had a Alpha Hunter in at the same time and they sharpened it. Both were returned THE SAME WEEK!!!!!!
Your mileage may vary...

SOOooo with that said- What did you break? :D J/K

didnt break anything just have a hard used buck 110 from the 80s

Could you post a pic or 2?
Joe pops on here occassionally, he would have a better idea. OR if you include a letter that you just want it freshened up they won't replace it. But I would make sure it gets to Joe's attention first ;)

Listen to 'em, Ace! In my experience with THE Knife Company, which is somewhat comprehensive, Buck will do the right thing by you. What do you want? Replacement? Refurbishment? Often Customer Service offers you options. Box it up and leave the rest to the Folks at Buck! Their reputation was EARNED after all! My money is where my mouth is too! I am awaiting a supplemental EDC 110 FG N/S pinned Sambar personalized script engraved black leather sheathed BG-42 bladed fine example of cutlery from Post Falls. Turn-around time is usually very reaonable too.

If it is just well used, that probably doesn't fall under some form of "failure"..

May be a slight charge for refurbishing.

If this is any kind of keepsake... I would suggest retiring it leaving it as is, and heading over to wallymart. Grab ya up a new one for about $27 driveout.

Repair times are seasonal as well, so plan on longer time right before hunting season...

If it's sentimental value, include a note indicating so...with your phone number...

Be sure to address it to BKI, *not* Buck Knives, as some bastard thieving Postal supervisor will steal it for sure... :grumpy:

Joe had emailed me some prices for sharpening (& the accompanying cleaning/refinishing) a 110; it was $5.00 for walk-ins; $6.95 for mail-ins...this was for a Buck 110 [IIRC] (larger knives may be more), and was about this time last year, so it may have gone up (I'm sure he'll correct me if it's changed)... :D

I've never seen/read of one so badly damaged that it was replaced, but blade replacements are common, for broken tips, chunks broken out of the blade, snapped off blades, etc...

Call ahead of time and get a quote; credit card is the usual method of payment... ;)

I have sent several knives in for refurbishing. The charge has always been $6.95 for any size knife. I even sent money for the return shipping and Buck sent my money back in less than a week along with some beautifully refurbished knives. Can't say they will always be that fast but when you figure about 4 days of shipping and possibly a weekend, their work has to be done by Santa's Elves who must be perfectionists.:D :D :D

Oh snap Is it gonna get taken away since I addresed it to Buck knives? Cause I dont have enough money for a replacement.

The PO won't confiscate it for being a knife....

Its just that when some postal sees KNIFE,,,he will steal it..

We address them to BK Inc.

Maybe it will slip past the thieves. Should always send a kife with at least confirmation shipping also..

I always sent mine addressed to Buck Knives. (until the new shipping title was brought to my attention) But I always insured them and put delivery confirmation also...

We make repair/replace calls based on the knife. If its a model 317 Trialblazer with a broken main blade, it will be replaced since we are long out of main blades for that modle.
If it is a 110/112, they have to be pretty badly messed up before we will replace the whole knife. The main thing that makes a 110 or 112 non fixable is a crack in the brass.

One more thing I would add, in addition to the comments above, is regardless of if the knife is sentimental or not, include a note describing what happened and what you would like us to do.
That really helps a lot.
Other things folks have forgotten to include with their knife...return address.  Does not happen that often thank goodness! :) Although we DO get a lot of handwritten addresses that are not readable. Must be a lot of doctors out there with Buck knives...

ok thanks Joe I had already sent it in prior to my first post and judging from my memory of the condition it will probaley be repaired. Also I put my adreesse in the note will that work?

That should be fine. Its always a good idea to put the address on the inside because sometimes the return address on the outside of the box gets obliterated going through the post office.
