Buck Rival 364: Country of Origin?

I'm just curious. Buck seems typically cagey/not very organized about some info, where their website says one thing, but vendors say another. I kind of like the smaller synthetic handled one hand opener. Seems to overlap with the Bucklite Max and Bantam series, though both seem to have trimmed down some. What's the final word?

In the 2017 catalog the 364 and 365 are USA made. HTH, Preston

If you like the knife, does it really matter where it is made? USA or off shore, it is still a Buck knife, with the same warranty/guarantee.

"Typically cagey". Quite a statement.

As far as what Buck shows versus a vendor, Buck doesn't out the info on the vendors listings/website. Some times they just copy off the manufacturers website and other times I see stuff that is totally off the wall. I've even seen vendor websites that had the description of one knife under the picture of another.

I'll take the high road. Yes, Buck is trying as well as vendors to get this information correct. There are a lot of descriptions to proof read and they should have someone going through these. In the mean time, I'm glad shecky could come on here and ask us to find the straight skinny on Buck items. DM

Best thing is to simply call Buck and ask
Order/Product Questions: (800) 326-2825 ext. 3

Knife says USA, 2017 catalog says USA, website has a typo.

Didn't mean to raise hackles. I think it's a legit question. Buck has a history of playing up the idea of "US made", "onshoring", and so on. While I'm not particularly interested in US-only products, it is an issue for plenty of people. Just wanted to figure out what gives, since differing info is out there. One respected vendor even amusingly states "Built in the USA or imported", which should put an end to the question once and for all.

Sigh, it's pretty clear your wanting to get a reaction. I don't know of a situation Buck wasn't being honest about country of origin. Besides in this instance the website says imported and this would reverse of what your stating since it's built here.

Sure they do, and they are primarily a USA made product but the economics of having a product offering that meets the price point for Walmart cannot be ignored. Yes, Buck has imported products to compliment their primarily USA product line but has never played fast and loose with what is and is not. I can think of no Buck knife that is not marked with country of origin and it is always clearly labeled in the catalog. One product line that overlaps with both an imported version and a USA version are the 300 series pocket knives, for differentiation, they were given different model numbers as well as being clearly marked on the tang USA or China.

I'm not sure what the current product mix is but guessing about 90% USA and 10% imported. Has anyone seen any current information on that proportion? /Roger

I believe it was Jeff Hubbard who posted within the last month or so that off shore production accounts for 16% of their product line.

Pretty low compared to most manufacturers of similar size.

I've messed with more than a few Buck Knives. The current grind, an older Camillus made. The only thing I have left is a China built 3.5" Trapper. None of the others could I get to do paper.
I suppose I'll try again someday.
