Buck Rush ASAP stopped working......

I purchased a Buck Rush less than a week ago. I will say as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it. I love how it looks, opens, fits in my pocket on the clip, and feels. I carried it on the clip in my pocket for three days and it performed flawlessly. The next day I noticed it did not seem to open with the normal amount of force the spring would normally open it with. The next day I went to use it and the ASAP would not work at all. The safety seems to be loose compared to how it was also now.

I read somewhere that someone had the same problem and someone ( I assume who worked for Buck) said there was an updated part and that the spring moved or became unattached. He said to send it in and they would repair it with the updated part as well. It may have been on here but I'm not sure honestly.

1.Does anyone know if this is correct regarding an updated part?

I am considering just exchanging it for another one from where I bought it but am concerned if this happened after only three days will this likely happen again if I just go exchange it for a new one instead of shipping it to buck and getting it repaired with an updated part.

2. If you were me.... What would you do? A. Send it to Buck and get it repaired with hopefully an updated part and deal with paying shipping and waiting time or B. Just exchange it where I bought it for a different one and hope it doesn't happen again? I am curious if anyone knows if the the updated part may improve the chances of this not happening again also.

I am not you, of course.......but I know what I would do.

I'd get it back to Buck.

Maybe if you're lucky they'll replace it with a 112.

Some knives are just too complicated.

Hi lamb,

I don't own a Rush. But, I do own and use a Tempest every day, love the ASAP. I have been using this knife as one of my EDC knives for a few years. If you get lint from your pocket into the knife works it can become gummed up and get slow or fail (as your knife is so new its most likely gummy old oil) . Before you send it back or take it back, spray some oil-wd40/remoil/triflow into the pivot action and cycle the blade with your fingers back and forth to work the oil in. If this brings you no happyness, the screw at the pivot maybe to tight, back it off ever so slightly. You should be happy with the results, if not take it back and get another one.....you will be happy you did.

The safety can become loose if the screws back off a little. Look at the screws at the butt end of the knife to see if they are still tight.

I bought a Sirus off the bay and while working on it the spring came loose. After taking it apart I went for help. With my co-worker's help we got it back together. I would also suggest to return it to Buck for repair or replacement.

The spring coming loose is rare occurance. Exchange it or send it in. Chances of getting 2 duds if you exchange it is pretty slim.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm glad to hear it's a rare occurrence. I will go exchange it this afternoon.
