I noticed that several major U.S. knife retailers have posted that the Buck 119 and 120 S35V steel and Green Micarta knives have been discontinued. Does anyone know why Buck would drop this premium version of their classic fixed blades?

Sales got stale so they'll make a new one for next year with the next greatest stel and micarta and you'll eat them up 'till sales get stale.

The problem with something that lasts forever is no one needs 2. Gotta make something different to get everyone buying more.

My guess is Magnacut and natural canvas micarta.

You don't need to tell me twice, 105 Pathfinder on the way. I always thought I would get them all but I should get by with my 102,117 (BOTM) and this 105.
That’s what I did. I rounded out the series with the 120, 117, and the 103. The green Micarta and S35V are the perfect combination. Sure, a Magnacut version might be slightly better, but the S35V is about the best one can get. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the 120 as it’s the same size as my KABAR.

Can you post a link to who is stating that the Pro versions are discontinued? I am wondering if they are truly discontinued or if there are supply issues with obtaining the steel. I haven't seen it mentioned in the Buck forum, but there have been discussions in other places on Blade Forums about Crucible Industries filing for bankruptcy in early December. Crucible makes S35VN and Buck might be facing supply issues with obtaining S30V, S35VN, MagnaCut and other higher end steels.

I don’t believe it is a steel availability issue since Crucible Industries is still producing while it navigates Chapter 11. Niagara Specialty Steel who purchases from Crucible Industries has other sources of steel with the same chemistry as CPM billets.

My guess is that Magnacut, or its refined replacement, will supersede S35V since that is the current trend in the knife industry. Maybe we'll find out at the Shot Show 2025.

Sounds as if they are discontinuing it to be available so they can ramp up Magnacut production. Will be interesting to see what comes out of Shot show 2025. More of a marketing thing than supply issue.

I'm waiting for the next installment of the newest, greatest, bestest miracle steel that sharpens up in seconds and stays sharp for 91 years while chopping up bricks and rocks.

In the meantime I have 420HC and 440C and 425M, BG42 and D2.

Which do it all real fine in the real world.

:D
