Buck saw blades

Hey Guys,

I have just started to use buck saws and really like them. What is your experience in how long the blades will last when used a lot as in a wilderness living or survival situation. Do they need to be re-sharpened a lot and do they break easily?

What blades are best for dry firewood?

Thanks,

Geoff

Hello, Geoff!

I use this saw, and really like the Bahco peg tooth blades sold as replacements further down on the page:

http://www.nwwoodsman.com/Product/Cuttingtools/WoodsmanFoldingBucksaw.html

Those blades are made especially for dry hardwood- it doesn't have the "raker" teeth you normally see on bowsaw blades. If you don't saw dirty wood, and keep the blade tight when using it, and don't pinch or bend it in a cut, it will last a LOT of camping trips.

If you're in the market, give Eric at NW Woodsman a try- he's a great guy to deal with. Look over his website too- lots of neat stuff to see and learn, not just buy. I am not affiliated with him at all, just a very happy repeat customer.

Hope this helps a little. Take care!
Regan
