On the Becker forum I was describing my procedure when I cut fallen branches as the first step toward making hiking sticks and canes. I first cut the branches with my Buck Saw, but it has no number on it and when I tried to find it on the internet, Amazon, and eBay I couldn't. I gather the saw has been discontinued, but does anyone have any details about its status?

The saw weighs 7 ounces and the cutting edge is 10 1/4 inches long. There are two blades, one on each side. With the leather sheath they weigh 14 ounces. If I'd known there were going to discontinue it (assuming that's what happened), I would have gotten another. It is perfect for what I use it for.

Shall I post a photo, or perhaps someone knows of a site where this saw is described?

Yes. Here's you a photo. Buck brought it out in 1986. A very interesting model with a history, not made in Buck's plant. I really enjoy mine and it's always in my truck ready for duty. DM

Made by Pioneer out of Boise, ID. Search key words: pioneer knapp sport saw to find on the secondary market.

Here is a Ducks Unlimited edition of the 154 with black etched Skinner and integrated sheath:

Yes, thanks. This is the saw I have. I don't have the one that Oregon shows with the skinner. Also, he wrote, "Made by Pioneer out of Boise, ID. I suppose I don't need to worry. Mine is still in pretty good condition.

Thanks,
Lawrence

Mr. Helm, I'm certain it was made for Buck by Knapp as they came out with a similar model years before and were set up to do these. I have a Knapp saw and have used it for years and they're close to Buck's model 154. I've also held in my hand the 1st proto type of this saw and it's handle was of micarta and no hole in the 'T'. Those search engines can be tricky. Enjoy your saw as it's a great camping tool. Your welcome. DM
