Hey Guys,

What is the lightest, sturdy and really efficient firewood making Buck Saw on the market? How much does it weigh? It needs to be a breakdown saw so I can put it in a backpack. No folding saws.

Thanks,

G

I have the Trailblazer and I'm very pleased with it.

I have the same and think it is great. Cuts as good as a regular buck say and folds down into its handle/tube. Its a very good saw!

I have a small take-down from Wyoming. The same folks that sold the Wyoming knife. Over the years I has picked up a bone and hacksaw blade that fit, as well as the wood blade. Really pay attention to where the blades are made. Blades made in Sweden, Canada, Japan and the U.S. are good choices. I recently had some blades from china that literally would hardly cut. Clean pine pitch off of the blades, as it causes them to hang up when cutting. Almost any solvent will work. Being carbon steel, the blades will rust when not in use. I rub the blades with the base of a parafin candle to prevent this.

This in my opinion, is one of the best bangs for the buck out there:

I just build my own based on this pattern, I kept my Woodsman though! ;)

The most lightweight but still efficient bucksaw is a selfmade! You just need to carry the sawblade and a piece of paracord - that's it. With a little experience you can build it in less than 30 minutes and it is a true workhorse.
Here's one i made last autumn:

I had one...don't remember the model ?
Junk. Gave it to a kid in town.

Knives from knife makers
Saws from saw makers.

Silky makes a similar saw - I like the Gomtaro 180 model (there is also a 240 and 300 model). Overall length of the 180 model is about 12 inches (blade approx. 8") and it comes with a sheath. It is not a folding saw, but it fits in a pack quite well. And it is a performer!

:)

I believe I saw plans for a self made one in the latest issue of the Backwoodsman. I don't have that issue yet but skimmed it real quick at the grocery the other day.

Yeah, there are plans in the Nov/Dec Backwoodsman. The article is on pp. 16 - 17. Great magazine!

Nicely done. Not to get off topic, but I have to ask. Did you refinish the handle on your GB? If so, can you PM / Email me with the details. That darker handle really trips my trigger. I'd like to darken up the handle on my GB Wildlife also.
Thanks in advance.
