I just received a Buck SBT, however, my sample's linerlock engages clear across the tang (unlike my Buck Strider Spear point folder). Is this normal?

Josh, there's no blade wobble in any direction, but the lock lock engages the tang at the very end so I don't know how long it will take (with wear) before the lock makes contact with the opposite liner. Even though, there's no slop with the lockup at this point, could I still send it in?

Us eit for a while and see if it slips any further over. If it does send it in, or you can send it in now if you like.

Thanks Josh. With normal use, I suspect there shouldn't be a problem with premature wear but it's nice to know I can count on Buck's customer service if there are any issues.

I do have another question regarding the bronze washers. Should the double washers on the SBT be on the locking liner side or on the opposite liner? The reason why I asked is that when I bought the folder, the double washers were positioned right in front of the lockbar and one washer was positioned on the opposite liner. In this configuration the blade would lean to the side of the handle in the closed position and the lockbar would engage clear across the tang almost touching the opposite liner.

Well, I reversed the position of the washers by placing the double washers against opposite liner and placing the single washer in front of the lockbar. The blade is now perfectly centered when closed and the lockbar engages the tang past center, not quite at the very end, but almost. It seems to allow a tiny bit of room for wear and the lockup is still secure with no blade play in any direction. I was just curious to know what the proper setup for the washers are on the SBT?

The doubled up washer is on the correct side. I will get with our engineer on this project, and we will try some set-up like you have it.

Thanks for the update Jeff. I stopped by a local shop that had a few SBT's in stock and the double washers are positioned on the liner opposite the lockbar. Naturally, I couldn't resist and bought another one as well as a Buck 291 Rush. :D

Incidentally, that little Rush folder is sweet!

That IS interesting. I just looked at 2 SBT's fresh out of the box and Both have the double washers on the lockbar side. Also, the lockup on both knives are as dead-center to the blade and rock-solid as they can be.

A heavy-duty knife that can be opened with a flick of the wrist.

Another superb piece of work from our favorite knife company. :)

hehe.. ok guys now I'm confused... The 2 washers should be on the Spring Liner (lockbar) side of the blade, not the flat liner.. It has been replaced by 1 thicker washer in current production. Is this what you are finding, or do we have some wahsers doubled up on the flat liner side?

Help a confused soul out.. I'll check our stock to make sure...

Jeff,

I took another close look at mine and both have 2 washers on the Locking liner side and One washer on the flat side.

They work just fine. Everything is smooth and tight and straight.

I wondered why a thicker washer wasn't used, but the double config. works just as well.

One additional comment: A Plain-Edge and a Take-apart version would be cool.

Thanks,
Dan
