Buck sharpening question

I've inherited a Buck Master survival knife (you know, the "Rambo" style with the saw blades on top). I handled this same knife many years ago when it was new, and it was really sharp. Unfortunately, someone tried to sharpen it on a Chefs Choice electric sharpener, and now its about as sharp as plastic soda straw! I've tried to save it on my Edgeware Crock Sticks and Spyderco Sharpmaker, but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how to bring this back from the dead? Thanks!

I would start with a diamond sharpener medium grit. If that doesn't do it try a belt sander. After you can a reasonable edge on you can finish it up on your crock sticks.

Send it to the manufacturer, they'll sharpen it for you quickly and effieciently.

If you want to go the inexpensive route, get a 8" dual sided sharpening stone from your local hardware store, it shouldn't cost more than 10 dollars. Use this to lower the angle of the edge's bevel. You don't need to be precise at this step, all you need to do is remove some metal to make the edge angle more acute. Grind with the coarse side until a burr forms on the side opposite of the one you're grinding on. You won't be able to see the burr, but you can feel it with your thumbtip. After you've done that, try your sharpmaker again. One way to see if the sharpmaker's stones are contacting the edge is to mark your bevels with a magic marker. If you make a few passes on the Sharpmaker and there's still a thin strip of marker left along your edge, you need to spend a little more time with the stone. Other methods are listed here http://www.bladeforums.com/features/faqsharp.shtml . This is a link to the BF sharpening FAQ. What I told you here I basically learned from the FAQ and from experience. The FAQ is a little bit more concise than I am though. Good luck, and if anything I put here confused you, please feel free to e-mail me or ask for clarification in this thread, I won't be offended.
