Buck Sheaths

Greetings one and all. I'm new here and have a question. I have heard so many negative reviews about the leather sheaths for the Buck Knives folders. I love my Buck and wanted to purchase a new sheath for it instead of the nylon. My question is, does anyone have any experience with the brown leather sheath? If so, does it ride to high on the belt, is the carry system (loop) any good, and is it a shoddy piece of equipment (the black is made in Mexico, the brown according to the company is made in america and design is being worked on with no deadline as of yet) I know multiple questions, perhaps I should've worded my intro better. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you

Howdy Wulf and welcome to BF! Also welcome to our little corner of this world at Sheaths and Such. Are you talking like a Buck 110? I don't have any answers for you regarding brown vs the black sheath from Buck. I'd make another suggestion. For a few $ you could make your own that would probably look and work much better for ya. Here's a folding knife pouch for a Buck 110 sized knife:

The thong is sewn onto the backside and the whole package drops into your pocket. Need your knife...pull on the thong and there it is.

Takes about 10 minutes to make one of these up. Granted I've got a leather sewing machine but with the proper needle your wife's, sister's, mother's, somebody's, folks next door's Singer will sew this soft stuff. More involved but something like this works very well for a Buck 110 too. The above mentioned Singer ain't gonna sew it but hand sewing isn't that hard.

Here's how these ride on the belt. This one is a for a Leatherman but all that a guy needs to do to fit a Buck is change the interior stitch lines some.

If this is something you'd might like to take a shot at, there is a lot of help here both by asking questions and the Stickies at the top of the page. Welcome again to Sheaths and Such.

Which Buck folder do you have? The black and brown leather for the 110 are both made in Mexico. They both look pretty good for factory leather sheaths but I haven't used one personally. The loop is sewn on top and bottom on the back which puts the belt smack dab in the middle of the knife, which would ride a little high for me. I'd rather have it folded over on the top and shaded up just a little.

First off, thanks to all who answered. Maybe making my own, hmmm. I was told by the company that the brown sheath was made here (truth, I dont know thats just what they told me when I asked about all of the complaints about these) and to answer your wuestions, yes the 110

Dunno whether there's any difference between brown and black except for the color. I take all my leather sheaths apart, treat them with SnowSeal inside and out and re-stitch with waxed nylon thread using the cobbler's stitch. They resist absorbing moisture and the heavier stitching seems to last nearly forever. There are lots of custom leather sheath options too.

Are they not glued together as well as stitched ?

Ken the factory type sheath Manufacturers generally only use rubber cement (if any) and stitch right after they slap them together. Dis-assebly is not really difficult.

That makes sense now that I think about it .
All I was thinking about was " good luck getting one of mine apart "
