Buck Sheaths?

I was wondering how the sheaths have changed over the years? I know in the 80's they had that thick light colored sheath. Then it moved towards the standard snap top sheath. However, I seem to remember when I was a young lad they sheaths seemed to be made with thick and better quality leather. It even seems like the brown sheaths appear more leather-like than current black sheaths. Am I correct or incorrect with my diminishing memory? Pics would be greatly appreciated too...

Is this the one you are referring to?

It won't let me attach the picture again, so check that thread.

If so, I have an opinion about them. They have very thick leather, but in my opinion, thicker isn't better.:thumbdn:

The leather is so thick that the belt loop part is very stiff and makes the sheath too bulky for me to carry. I much prefer the flap over type with the thinner leather.

All I know is that new production 110s come with cheesy cordura sheaths and not the leather kind anymore. I can't stand cordura sheaths.
I do like the knife, though. I carry it almost as often as knives costing 5 or 10 times what the Buck cost me.

Maurice,You can still get the leather sheaths w/ a 110 at Sportsmans Warehouse,Cabela's,Bass Pro and knife stores.Which I perfer as well.DM

The more I use my cordura 110 sheaths in horizontal mode, the more I like them. when I get home after a successful hunting trip or at the end of the season, I just toss them in the washing machine along with my hunting clothes.

They come out nice and clean.

When wearing one horizontal, it doesn't drag on the truck seats and is almost like it isn't there.

Pack Rat, I am with you. I have an Alpha Hunter as my EDC and the horizontal carry is the best way with a knife this size. The cordura sheath is very sturdy.

I gather you know those alpha leather sheaths are both V&H carry as well as the cordura. :D

My 277 is a Bos 154cm blade NIB and I use a 279 that I got on the bay that was already used. I cleaned it up and put on a good edge with my Lansky. The leather sheath for the 277 is a bit tight when you use it as a horizontal carry, I think. Actually I have never carried my 277 only the used 279. I also have a NIB 279 that sits in the box.
