Buck Short Nighthawk

"The Short Nighthawk has a razor sharp full tang 420HC stainless steel blade that has a non-reflective black oxide coating."

Growing up (before internet) every time I asked my dad the definition of a word (which he darn well new the definition) he would tell me to go look it up.

call it a hidden tang? full length just not as wide.

wider than a rat tang though. regardless of termimology we use, its very strong. just as strong as a full tang (used here meaning length and width.)

not sure about width part being required to be a full tang. Many call it that.....length and width, but i see many mentions hunting around in definitions of tangs of only length being what is referred to as a full tang. even buck says this knife is a full tang on their site. they know the terminology better than i do. so I'll go with what they say on the matter regarding their knife.

I am used to seeing the tang exposed and about the width of the blade for full tang. But I imagine if the tang was the same width as the blade but just covered up by a bigger handle I would consider it a full tang too.

The Nighthawk has a thick blade, that's what always stuck out for me. And it's ergonomic. A really tough knife. I'm happy to see it's at least 3/4 as wide as the blade.

I looked up the buck website first and didnt see any mention of the tang, however the Sentry is described as full tang.

Full tang is when the tang is visible top and bottom and has two pieces of material on ea side of the tang.
The 650 would be considered half or partial tang.

Not everyone agrees with that definition. Just saying. If someone says full tang make sure they have the same definition you do.

Who cares what the difference....it’s still a great knife.... and to see all three available today...WOW
