Hi Guys,

I'm just looking for some advise or opinions regarding the buck slipjoint handle scales.

Do you prefer the black delrin, wood, or bone scales and why???

I believe the standard Black Sawcut handles are Valox, although there have been some buildouts with Delrin.
For a standard daily user I would prefer the Sawcut handle for appearance and grip. I like the classic shield and the squarer bolsters that is currently only offered with the black sawcut. I don't care as much for the rounded Comfort Craft bolsters for appearance. I also find the smooth Comfort Craft handles a bit slicker and don't care for the shield as much. I wish Buck would mix it up and offer a custom color sawcut valox handle each year in addition to the black. Yellow, red, blue, green etc. would be a nice starter for the next few years....

I really like the Valox myself. The others can be more attractive but the grip on the Valox is much better. I have a 303 and a 305, both for using. The grip is especially important on the 305 because it is so tiny.

Mora and I have been in contact and I think I inadvertently used Delrin to describe new model 300s. But, Soto an stick are right they are Valox. Off the top my head I can't remember the year they changed but its been a couple three. If you go read the plastics trade descriptions they are almost alike anyway. In the dymondwood models I searched for very light colored, almost grey looking scales, the current cherry and brass bolsters are just fine as they are. Nice jigged bone is worth a premium to me also. Naturally, like almost every Buck nut to visit this site I would always choose stag over anything. Actually, I like elk antler over the deep groove stag. If I had wishes, one would be that Buck do a better job in matching stag scale sides. It seems all to often one , usually tang stamp side, is really nice looking then the off-hand side is too deeply grooved for my taste. For that reason I would never buy a stag scale from the internet.

Like Craig (300) said above, stag is the best. But, I like it to be ruff and bumpy with deep grooves. I think the best scale they have or will have done is white micarta, you have to be a BCCI member to order one and they will have BG-42 blades and is a very limited run. Enjoy the hunt!
