Nephew came over the other day and showed him some knives and he didn't seem interested in knives and don't think he carries one either. I do know he likes to snowboard ski and I was wondering if a knife could come in handy for that sport and if so what would be a good Buck knife to have?

Wenger makes a Snowboard knife. How much longer they will be available is anybody's guess.

There are 2 reasons I carry something with me when I ski: dealing with bindings and general EDC use.

Regarding the former, the screws or bolts that attach the binding to the ski/board can work loose. Worse, if a binding rips out, you need to be able to reattach it. I carry a small, ratcheting t-handle hex driver with removable hex bits. Lastly, some bindings require tools to make adjustments. My XC ski bindings use posi-drive screws and demand a lot of torque. A t-handled driver with a proper posi-drive head in it is infinitely better than any phillips head driver on any knife or multitool. I have no idea what connectors your nephews bindings use, but that's where I would start. From a quick search, looks like a #3 phillips and a small adjustable wrench would do it.

The other use is general EDC use. Lunches. Cutting stuff. Nothing particular about skiing to separate it from hiking in this regard. You want something you can pocket carry and that will be light enough not to notice while being very active. I've no advice on getting you nephew hooked. I find either people do or don't get it.

Hope something here helps.
