Buck Special Model 119

Kevin,
I think the 119 has been Buck's best selling fixed blade knife for some time. As a result, there are many of them out there. The name has always been Special, I don't know how that particular name was chosen. In the 100 series of black phenolic handled
fixed blades, the barrel-nut models are most rare and most desired by collectors. Next, would be flat tang models stamped BUCK. In 1968, when exporting to Canada began, the tang stamp was changed to BUCK / U.S.A. Then, in late 1971, Buck started adding the model # to the stamp: BUCK / 119 / U.S.A.
These knives are abundant and thus are sold
for less than the previously mentioned types.
In 1986, Buck added a year symbol right after
the model #. This symbol gives indication as to when the blade was made.
I hope this gives you some insight.
Larry
