Buck knives really got me started in my fondness of knives and though I have many and my tastes seem to be getting more expensive, the traditional fixed blades in the Buck lineup seem to get the most regular use, especially the 119. It's in the kitchen, out at the grill packed witht he cooking stuff when we go camping, brought on vactation with us ... it's like a part of the family!

Anyone else with me ont his use of the old 119 (or 105,etc.) even though you may have a houseful of "better" knives?

I dont carry my 119 with me in the truck anymore due mainly to the Texas 5 1/2 " length law,but I have a 119 in our two pickups and a 105 in the mustang. I really like the 105 slimness and had dug it out yesterday to use in the kitchen last night. Then gave it a good sharpen with my Sharpmaker.

The Buck Special was also my first quality fixed blade. I followed that with the Ranger 112, and still have both which see a lot of use. My other favorite is my Woodsman 102, which I actually took fishing yesterday. This is probably my most used Buck of all time - works great as a bird and trout knife, and is just as handy in the kitchen or cooking out. Just a side note - when your 19 year old daughter asks you if you want to go fishing you must have done something right raising her - I`m a happy Dad!

I have a 119 but the one I often use in the kitchen is the 105, I like the slender blade, and it´s sharper and tougher than regular kitchen knives, better for some chores.

I got a 119 while I was in the Army in the mid-80's, and it was the only fixed blade I carried. Used it alot afterwards, too, mostly for cutting out bank-fishing holes and for hiking. Skinned two deer, too. Still sees alot of kitchen and some camp use. The 105 has always looked nice, just haven't got one yet.

One fine field knife . I carried in South East Asia and found them to be tough durable sheath knives.

My Buck Special was my first quality fixed blade too. My best friend bought it for me for $20 brand new on my 16th birthday, way back in 1975(damn, I'm gettin old!). I still have that knife, and it has been through the wringer and back! A year or two ago, I sent it back for a clean up and the Edge 2000 treatment, and Buck did her good. Sharper than she has ever been. I imagine that knife will stay in my family forever. I plan on handing it down to my Son, when I get through abusing it. ;)
