I have been looking at both of these knives. I was wondering if anyone has one or both of these. What are the impressions everyone has of them. I have always lived buck knives and have given many as gifts looking at these for another edc.

By appearance I tend to prefer the Vantage but I've seen some Vantages that had some real fit and finish issues. From a standpoint of what you get for your money, I think the Spitfire wins. You can find Spitfires in both full size and mini versions with S30V steel for less than $50. I think those flavor of Spitfires beat a Vantage every time.

If you compare the Avid Vantage vs. the S30V Spitfire it's really no contest (both can be had for ~$50):

Steel: Vantage-420HC, Spitfire-S30V
Lock: Vantage-liner, Spitfire-Back Lock
Handle: Vantage-Dymondwood/Plastic, Spitfire-Aluminum
Deployment: Vantage-Flipper (with "not great" action), Spitfire-Hole

I prefer the clip on the Vantage over the clip on the Spitfire, but that's really the only category where the Vantage wins in my book.

View attachment 985208 As near as I can tell, the Spitfire was the first Buck knife utilizing CPM S-90-V steel. Mine is free of blade play. I am not enamored of the recurve or the Aluminum handles, but I was happy to see Buck branching out into premium blade territory.

Very different knives. The Vantage would be my choice but how it fits your hand is key in my opinion.

I really prefer the Vantage knives. This one (micarta + 20CV) is one of my current favorite carry options:

I wanted to like the Spitfire/Slimline a lot. But I couldn't get used to the hump on the spine and the big choil didn't work for me at all. I also found the blade frustratingly thick.

I had 3. They all had really bad lock rock. But they say they've sorted that out.

I'd go with the Vantage
