I am thinking about getting one of these, does anyone have a pictures of the Buck Squire Lockback? If you have one in the hand so I can see how big it is would be great, I know it is small but I want to know just how small, thanks for any help.

A 500, 112 and the 501.

So Rick,

Is it going to be a standard user or will you look for an upscale version? You can always go for the CS version also.

jb4570,

At some point in time I would like to have both, a regular production user and a CS version just to have.

Rick, the 500 isn't in current production but is often findable on the standard auction sites. It may pop up from time to time as a commemorative, but I've no idea on that really.

I have an old Schrade 5OT (green handle) that is almost exactly the same size as the 501 Squire. Here it is compared to the Buck 110, Buck 482 and Buck 500 (and an Opinel #8).

Pictures don't tell the whole story on the comparison, imo. The 501 (and 5OT) are smaller in all dimensions. Lighter. Thinner frame. Thinner blade. They feel like a lot less knife compared to my 500. Sometimes, this is a very, very good thing. I generally prefer my 500 for any cutting task, but when I'm in social situations where a smaller knife attracts less attention, sometimes that's the best.

It's true, the 501 (and 502/503) feels more like jewelry for grown mens and a perfect edc and dress knife.
More likely to be complimented on the knife when seen then with a tacticlol knife, thats for sure.
