Buck Steel Question

I have been looking at the Buck Bravo 850 on a few online stores and was about to buy it until I discovered conflicting information on the steel used in this knife. On several sites, the steel is listed as 154CM. I have since read that Buck switched the steel to 13c26 Sandvik, which would be fine with me. However, when I went to the Buck website the knife was listed as having 12c27Mod. steel. I'm very confused. I don't necessarily have a preference in any of these steels, especially with the Buck HT, but I would like to know what I am getting before I buy one. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Bravo has 154CM blade steel. Both 13c26 and 12c27 are both Sandivic steels and are almost identical in performance. All three are great steels but to answer your question its 154CM.

Buck introduced the Bravo in 2008 and for that year and 2009 the steel was 154CM but in 2010 it was changed to 13C26. It disapeared from the catalog after 2010.

It would be possible for you to get either steel if you order one, depending on whether the dealer has older stock or newer.

Thanks, Plumberdv. I just got off the phone with Buck and they basically said the same thing. Their online catalog lists it with 12c27Mod, but Buck customer service said exactly what you said. It first had 154CM, then 13C26.

Just a suggestion, but if you do order one, ask the dealer specificly which steel it is (if you have a preference). I know that on quite a few occasions that I've seen, an online dealer will continue using the same description after a steel change. On one such occasion, when questioned about the steel type, the dealer told me that they were't even aware that a change had been made. They had just reordered when their stock was low not knowing that the blade steel was different.

Same for those on the auction sites. Don't go by the picture alone, it may just be a stock photo and not the actual knife you'll be getting. Read the description and ask the seller if there's any doubt at all.

Thanks. That was the case with this vendor. It was an outdated description online and the knives turned out to be 13C26, which is fine by me.
