what other steels are available for a Buck stockman other then 420HC ss?
Do they make them in carbon steel?

I've only seen the 301 in 420HC.

No plain carbon steel blades, but the older ones from the 1960's & 70's should be 440C.

Fixed blades, yes.
110, yes.

Not the stockman. AFAIK Buck did not start making their own stockman models till ~'90.

Buck went for the stainless steel aspect. No rust or other patina issues.

Which I like.

I love my old 307 and it, to this day, is my EDC.

I tell you what, for all the years I've been a faithful Buck user, I did not know that Camillus was the maker of Buck pocket knives, till I signed on here. As a matter of fact, my family always bought Case (my first two pocket knives were Case and still have one) and Kabar pocket knives and never really paid any attention to Camillus till after they went belly up.

Youse guys have "learned" me a lot.

We actually dont know for sure what steel Camillus used on those old 300 series. I'm not sure they actually divulged that information. We did have a requirement that they have a certain rockwell hardness.
I see lots of them come through the warranty department and the blades stay shiny but the springs patina.

Long ago I learned to never talk steel on the older 300s from the sources above. It is just sort-a like a Christmas gift some you may be surprised and happy about and some you really didn't need. Will work the same for those Cami made knives. Maybe a little 'don't say, don't tell'.

"I" prefer to carry(and sharpen) old Schrade made 300s or post 86 models. The Edge 2000 angle sharpens well on the "sticks" I use. Because it's Fall my left hand is in it's hairless stage......(from edge testing).
