Buck Stider Folder 3 in Spearpoint

I just received my first Buck knife. I've owned Spydercos, Benchmades, and even Emersons prior to me received mine. Does anybody have any reviews or information pertaining to the Buck Strider Folder. How tough is it and is the locking mechanism MBC rated. It's not like I'm going to use it to cut anyone however. Lock security is important because I have been cut due to lock failure. I'm just curious. What I like about it is that the G-10 handle is very comfortable to grip and there are thumb ridges on the top and bottom so use in forward and reverse grips is quite comfortable. The only thing that I might harp about is that I expected a thicker locking liner. If this lock is sufficient, then I'm a happy camper. How do they cut and how is the edge retention. Are they hard to resharpen. Anybody care to share an opinion with me and how do they compare to other knives. I'm not trying to start a war between manufacturers however. Thank you for reading my forum!!

if the pivot is tightened correctly i cant imagine having lock probs w/a buck/strider, they are, imho, almost a frame lock, i know my 880 has very thick liners, cant imagine having a prob w/that. also locks up very well.

not hard to sharpen, a great carry knife, my wife wants a small one, i am sure ya will love it.

my only compaint is they have a few sharp edges on the handle, easily cured w/a little sandpaper.

great knives imho

Buck Strider liners are thicker than Spydercos, Benchmades, and Emersons. I don't think there is a Spydercos, Benchmades, and even Emersons liner that can compare to the Buck Strider liner.

Thanks for all your replies. The liner is still thinner than I expected. It's not like an Al Mar Sere 2000. I just hope it's stong.

I thought both B/S and S2k liners were in the 0.075" range... either a 0.063" or a 0.083" (like that in the MT LCC) will not be as significant as going to the 0.100" in the AR/GB or the 0.125"/0.150" in most framelocks (Sebenza, SnG, etc.)

You expected a thicker liner lock!!
You sir, need a Strider AR.

I guess I'm unclear if you are talking about the SB1or SB2.
Ive got the larger SB1 and that sucker is thick, liner and all.
However frail it appears to you I find it quite chunky enough.
I'm sure you won't have problems with lock strength

The SB series folders have some of the thickest regular production liners that I know of.

I would have to look to find it, but I recall the lock strength is something like 600lbs or 800lbs rated, while the stopper in the rear is rated at 2000lbs.

Liner Lock fails between 600-700 lbs, blade stop at an average of 2200 lbs. I routinely jam my 880's/ 881's through a steel chair in my office and at shows (a Strider standardized test) and it holds up perfectly.

Blade is thick and isn't the best for opening envelopes, but it is great for searches, extrication, prying, digging etc.

Alot of our local cops here carry the 880/ 881 in tandem with a thinner edge like an Odyssey or Lightning.

Let me know if you need any other answers

Josh,

Thanks for the info!! That's really sweet. I like knowing that these things are being destruction tested to really know the limits.

What happens when it does fail at 600lbs?

Is it just catastrophic failure of the entire liner (i.e. bend, crumple?), or does something else happen?

Have you tried impact vs. sustained force tests?

That's pretty cool. Nice to know I can hang off my knife when it's stabbed into a wall. ;)

The Buck/Strider liners are 0.100 thick, the same thickness as the AR/GB as far as I know. On top of that they're titanium...no worries! LoL
