I just ordered (well last night anyway) my first Buck traditional folder, a Stockman DW. I will say it was a little bit of an impulse buy. When I saw the knife I immediately liked the look of it. I have been looking at other brands of slip joints but hadn't totally liked them for one reason or another. The only issue I was having was trying to decide between the Stockman and the Cadet. I usually like to carry bigger knives (CRK large Sebenza, ZT0551 etc) so I went with the Stockman. We will see though I may have to get the Cadet later.

A 301 stockman? If so, you'll love it I believe. I carry a 301 of one type or another with out fail everyday. I might get used to the 303 if I tried, but it's just too small for my taste.

Yep it is an 0301GYS-B. That was my problem I think the 303 would be to small. For what ever reason I hadn't really looked at Buck knives for a traditional folder. When I saw that 301 though it just struck a cord with me.

The Stockman is a great covert EDC, big enough blade when needed and a "PC" look. It will slip into your pocket unnoticed. The trick I found is to slide it in next to your wallet so it doesn't wear white spots or holes in your jeans.

Well it arrived in the mail today. I am impressed! It is a really nice knife, especially for the money. I stropped it really quick and it is razor sharp. We will see how the steel performs. I am not expecting any problems though. I really like the charcoal wood handles. They are very nice but not to flashy. I have a feeling this knife is going to find itself in my pocket a lot.

I've been thinking about picking up a Buck Stockman, but I am kinda Case loyal when it comes to traditionals. I may get a bug here in the next few days and give in to the "wants" for another knife. I think those handles look amazing though. I would like to see how they look after a year or so of use and pocket rides.

I was thinking about picking up a pouch or something to keep the knife in while it is in my pocket to help protect the wood, because they are really nice handles.

Do a search on pocket sheaths, leather cases, etc. Both here and on Traditional forum and you will get some (actually lots of) ideas and info.

It's a shame that they quit providing a sheath with them. They had them the first year that they came out, but I see they haven't been mentioned in the catalog since.

I got mine about a year ago and it did come with the leather sheath. It look just as nice as the day I bought it.

Looks good, you just can't hardly go wrong with a 301 (as far as stockmans go) they really have a style all their own IMO . With that being said the blades are a tad thick for a traditional knife but I've felt that they are right at home on a working knife like the 301 .
