When I was a kid I had read a book on how to build shelters outdoors. Once, when I was camping without a tent (usually) a sudden storm came up. I walked into a grove of cedars and began cutting off limbs with my trusty 110 from 5 or 6 trees. Then, I bent the trees over and tied them at the top with a piece of rope. After that, i started at the bottom and began weaving those cut limbs into my frame. I used my 110 to cut more limbs to weave, and in no time, I was snug as a bug in a rug.

I got a little fire going, and felt sorry for my friends, so I let them come inside. The wind and rain came, but it did not bother us. Finally, near dark, the rain stopped and the sun came out but the spot was pretty good and we already had shelter, so we did not finish going on into the mountains that day. The smell of the cedar, fresh air and hot coffee was a wonderful thing.

A good story. My youngest and I camped out one night by building a shelter. She then wrote a story about it and it appeared in the 2006 Buck Collectors newsletter. It was similar to how you built your's. DM

Doc, here you go. This is her second story. Written and posted in the Sept. 2007 issue. (Building a shelter) Her first story was in the Dec. 2006 issue, on collecting. DM

David that was great! Tell your daughter I will remember her advice about the dog! Hahaha!
I know you two had a great time and created some good memories. Excellent.
