Buck/Strider 880 & 881 questions

I hope someone can answer my questions. It's not something that's going to affect anything, but I'm curious as to why.

I have some Buck/Striders. My questions are concerning the 880 & 881's. Based on the symbol that's on the blades, I have the following:

2004 881SP: Has duel thumb studs & clip screw holes & screws on both side of the handle.

2001 881T: Has thumb stud on one side only (Left side of blade) & does NOT have clip screw holes on the left side handle.

2000 880SP: Has thumb stud on left side of blade only & does NOT have clip screw holes on the left side handle, either.

It appears that all 3 knives have BOS heat treated ATS-34 steel, Ti liners, & G-10 scales.

I'm curious as to why the thumb stud difference & no clip screw holes on the left side. FWIW, I noticed the G-10 on the '04 model is MUCH smoother than on the 2 older models ('00 & '01).

These knives are very solid, well built knives, as I'm sure everyone knows. I'm also trying to get the other models (Particularly, the G-10 ones). So, I'm really looking for a 882SBTG CMT, 888, & 890 (Either one or both). I wouldn't mind an 882BKX (Which I used to have-shouldn't of gotten rid of it), 887, & 889 (Any of them).

Anyways, I'd appreciate any help or reasons on this.

Thanks in advance.

Seems to me that the extra clip holes and dual thumbstuds were added later, as people realized "hey, this knife would be slightly nicer and appeal to more people if we did *this* on the next version." Basically, refining the product as time goes by.

OK, thanks. Does anyone know when the Buck/Strider collaboration was started?

The first striders only had 1 thumstud on the blade, and the g-10 handles were much rougher in texture, the newer ones had a finer g-10 and dual thumbstuds, ans also a upgraded washer for the blades.I love mine ,they are tough.

Thank you for the info. Yes, they are tough knives. I recently picked up 2 881s. One's a user, an 881SP, & it happens to be a later model (An '04). It flicks open with a thumb-flick & the blade's a solid, thick spear-point.

The other 2 are mint, an 880SP (What a monster!) & an 881T. All are PE, thankfully.
