So how many models of the 880 were there? I see a tanto and a spear point but i see some that are drilled for the clip on both sides, thumb studs with bead blasted screws and some with black, then what is the Tarani?

Any links or info would be awesome!

The Buck forum is always happy to answer questions. This is not my area, someone will be along who is knowledgeable on Striders. I would recommend you go to the top of the Buck home page and look in the yellow highlighted area for the thread on Buck fakes. The Strider seems to be a popular model for that area. You should gain some knowledge just looking in that thread.

One of my fav buck collaborations.lets see if I can answer some of your questions.when the 880 was introduced there were two blade configurations, the spearpoint, and the tanto.you could get them with a partially serrated blade as well.all models were bead blasted, for a non glare appearance, the earliest models came with only a single thumb stud for right handlers, and some very rough ,grippy g-10 .there were two model sizes available, and the early models all have the rough handles with a single thumb stud and no extra holes in the handles for switching the clip.buck made some changes including heat treating the liner lock where it contacts the blade when locked, dual the studs for better opening,smootherg10 handles, and extra holes and screws for moving the clip where you preferred.although a tank of a knife, the lockup on these were nothing great, becoming loose after minimal use.hard use made a mess out of these knives which surprised me.

I don't know the whole story but I recall seeing both ATS 34 and BG42 880's. I had the larger tanto in ATS 34 and then found the BG42 version NOS at a now gone dealer. They were pretty stout knives and mine had a fairly thick titanium liner lock best I can recall.

I know there was a spear point version and tanto version. The ones I had and looked at were well built. Overall the Bos heat treat on ATS 34 made it my favorite version of that steel.

I still have some BG42 Custom shop 110's and found Bos heat treat in BG42 excellent as well. If you like high performing stainless steels these are very good examples

The Tarani is the other Buck\Strider collaboration that resembles the standard Strider model.
