Leaning heavily towards this knife, but kind of shy about buying another liner lock.

Could anybody kind of describe this knife from a users standpoint for me?
How thick is the lock? How stout is the Spearpoint compared to the Tanto version?
I heard that the new version has a thinner lock than the old one but not such aggressive G-10 . I would gladely sand down some scales to get the thicker lock unless anybody has a legitimate reason they are better this way.

I have a EKI CQC-7( that I like very much :D )to compare to . Ive got knife stuff coming out of my ears now!! Ive been looking at customs and Bucks and Emersons and Spydies....... SHEESH!!

I have my 880T for a while ago and it's my primary edged tool. Construction, quality, feel, etc. etc. of this knife are all good to me and it's backed by Buck so the quality of after-sale service (doubt if u will need any in the near future) is pretty much assured. Then again, if I were u, while having an Emerson CQC-7 already, then I wouldn't get the B/S 880 cuz I think it would be kinda a redunant. Or I would trade it for the 880 cuz maybe it's just me, I don't like keeping extra things too much. :)

Hey thanks for the pics!

Im thinking about it because my emerson is a tanto and I would like something with a drop point and traditional grind Not to replace the Emerson! I like the grind O.K. I just want to have both styles. Im heavily weighing between another EKI 7-A,blade and this Buck/Strider. Ive heard the Buck has a meaner, more substantial lock and I like the 4 inch blade.

How good is the lock? I hear lots of complaints about EKI's linerlock being to thin (although I have no problems with it yet) How does the B/St compare?

Buck Strider uses a 0.080" liner IIRC.

It is plenty tough.

IIRC, it is tested to fail at > 1000 in-lbs. I can't find the reference right now...

It's fat and thick, and it doesn't slice dense/stiff material, but as for a production-grade non-framelock, there isn't much on the market that compares. It rocks.

Much as I like EKI, you owe it to yourself to try out the Buck/Strider. :)

I've had my large Buck/Strider tanto for a year and a half now. I had a CQC-7 tanto (nice '99 vintage piece), but got rid of that. Not because it was a bad knife, but I just didn't carry it.

The Buck/Strider, at least my own example, has always had a rock solid lock. My AFCK that I got in 1998 or 1999 locks up great too, but the Buck/Strider has a thicker lock, and the frame is much more rigid, promoting lock strength. THe B/S is just one heck of a solid tool. I was helping my fiancee move into her/our appartment, and had to cut tons of boxes down for recycling, open packaging, etc. Though a thinner blade usually works better for cardboard, I put a nice, thin, polished edge on it with my edge pro, so my knife sailed through all that cardboard. Paul Bos heat treat really makes this steel perform! I like my B/S enough that I'd love to get a spearpoint version too. Though I think most of my knife money, whenever I get knife money again, will go towards a custom Strider :)
